Why People Buy Fake Watches
Sometimes a person decides that they want to indulge themselves and they go out and spend money on things that will do this. The people who buy fakes seem to have a contradicting thought process. They act like it is only a name when they choose a counterfeit product with a premium brand name on it, and they seem to be ignorant of or ignore the real merits that make a Cartier Ballon Bleu the genuine item and far more valuable than the fake as they just consider one watch to be about the same as any other.
But they obviously consider the luxury name brand important enough that they are willing to accept items of highly dubious quality and origin just to get that brand name on them and we have yet to find how to interpret people’s willingness to pay for counterfeit versions of an expensive ladies watches when they have contempt for or ignorance of why the watch is valuable.
The most common places that people buy fakes are street vendors in major cities, flea markets, less reputable pawn shops, and Internet auction sites. Generally, these are all places where fly by night sellers can operate. The fake items are sold at a fraction of the cost of the real ones. Because it is not legal to sell some of these products these people have to find a way to avoid a conflict with the authorities.
Getting something at the fraction of the cost is a sign to many people that they are not buying a legitimate product. But sometimes the buyer is completely unaware they are buying a fake. They may even pay hundreds of dollars. If the item is the real thing, they are getting a great bargain.
So how do you tell when a watch is really a real one? Expensive timepieces that are genuine will have a serial number on them that someone can look for. There are many different ways for a manufacture to put it on the watch. It is usually on the back of one of the lugs, or on the back of the case and although where a watch has a serial number will vary it is possible to find out about a particular model by going online and reading a Cartier Ballon Bleu review to determine where to look for the model that you desire.
If you can find a registration number on a timepiece that might be a sign that the item you are looking at is a genuine product. That is true except for fake Rolex watches that often do bear fake serial numbers. You can check with the maker of the brand of watch that you are looking at to see if they can verify the markings on the back of the timepiece you have been shown. It is best if you can also include a photo of the watch with your request. They will respond with the technical details that you can use to confirm that the serial number does indeed belong to that watch.
Even if the watch is genuine, having a manufacturer’s representative check the serial number and view the watch or a photo of it can also identify if the watch has been altered. Timepieces that were made a while ago might have had to been repaired and had things changed on them to keep them operating.
If you don’t want to be stuck with a fake watch, do your homework. But if you are okay with a counterfeit, go out hunting for a bargain. The money you do not use for a nice watch will be useful elsewhere.
