2009 is the year to be seen in beads, tribal jewelry and handmade pieces; it’s the year of fabulous and affordable jewelry. The fashioistas have taken notice of the credit crunch, and instead blinging it up we’re getting back to basics with wood, plastic, glass, crystals and non-precious metals. Of course diamonds and white gold will always be a girls’ best friends, but this year they are making way to let us be stunning for less.

The major high street retailers have all taken this trend to the max with the likes of Topshop, H&M and Oasis leading the way with all the other well known retailers following closely at their heals.
You can always pick up something extra special and a bit different with a hunt through your local flea markets, charity shops and even car boot sales, and there are even a growing number of successful shops specifically selling vintage wares and handcrafted gems for those of you who don’t have the time (or the desire) to trawl these places for yourself.

Beads of all shapes and sizes and colours are key this year, and if you can’t find exactly what you are looking for you can create your own jewelry from the thousands for individual beads and kits you can buy to create the perfect one off piece to complete your outfit.
