What You Need To Know About Looking After Your Diamond Ring
Diamond rings will last for a lifetime if you treat them properly and, as they are so beautiful, you’ll certainly want to keep yours forever. Our guide takes you through some advice on keeping a diamond ring in good condition. Storing diamond rings carefully is very important when it comes to looking after them. Its not worth taking the risk of them becoming damaged by the band being scratched by other jewelry, so store them separately to other jewelry to eliminate any risk of the ring becoming tarnished whilst not being worn.
Handling your diamond ring carefully might sound like common sense, but they can very easily become lost and sometimes damaged so it is definitely worth paying attention and keeping an eye on your ring when you have it with you. For instance, if you are doing the washing up it would be a good idea to remove your ring to stop it getting lost in the sink. It is also a good idea to be generally careful about when and where you wear your ring.
If you need to clean your ring because it has become grimy then there is a simple process to follow. In a bowl of warm water, mix in a little mild detergent. Then add the ring and use a soft brush to clean off any dirt. You should avoid abrasive brushes such as those with harsh bristles. After cleaning your ring, use clean water to rinse it off and then dry it either with a lint-free cloth or leave it to dry naturally in the air.
Diamonds dont damage easily as they are a very hard substance, but rings can still become damaged so its worth checking it regularly for abrasions especially the metal band so you can get it sorted straight away and keep your ring in good condition. Damage can usually be repaired, so make sure you examine your ring for damage of any kind, such as cracks in the diamonds or faults in the metal setting that could cause the diamond to fall out and get lost.
One last thing to remember is that if anything happens to your diamond ring, take it to the jeweler, who will be able to fix the vast majority of damage. For example, they can repair the diamond setting to make sure the ring stays in one piece and they can also buff the metal band of the ring to make it as shiny as the diamond itself. Most damage can be fixed so if in doubt, get it looked at to help ensure your diamond ring stays in good condition.
