Using An Acne Diet to Prevent Breakouts
An acne diet is a very interesting idea. Hasn’t everybody heard that chocolate will give you pimples? We almost all have. As a result, it doesn’t really sound that strange that you are what you eat.
Nevertheless, a good acne diet is not easy to develop. It is highly personal and based on your body’s unique responses to food. There are guidelines, but your progress will largely be trial and error. Watch your skin carefully. Keep a journal. You might even want to take pictures using a digital camera once or twice a week. So if and when your skin clears up, stay on the diet you were on at the time.
The following are some easy guidelines to help get you started on an acne diet:
1. Take in a lot more protein. Many dermatologists think that protein intake is related to clear skin. This is because protein contains an enzyme that limits the production of oil. Oily skin has always been susceptible to breakouts.
2. Carbohydrates are not good. Don’t cut yourself off completely. But you should keep them limited to about 40 percent of your diet. Carbohydrates contain compounds that stimulate oil production. This is why so many people think that junk food causes acne. Actually, though, junk food is just high in carbs.
3. Drinking green tea is very good for you. If you can, drink real green tea. The best type of green tea is the kind that you brew. You may not like the real stuff so the green tea drinks will work. Androgen production will be limited when you drink green tea. Breakouts have been known to be caused by a hormone called androgen.
4. Try to limit the amount of salt you intake. Iodine is almost always located within salt. This is the reason why you hear table salt called “iodized salt.” Iodine is a major inflammatory agent in those with acne.
While watching what you eat, you should also be very careful with what you put on your face. If you have acne you are already aware of what ingredients are in your facial products. Use oil free moisturizers and organic skin care products. Products containing natural ingredients will least likely irritate your skin. Consider switching over to mineral makeup. Many dermatologists believe that mineral makeup can actually alleviate acne problems and enhance the results of your acne diet.
