When it starts to get dark a little earlier each evening and the weather turns just a little chillier, it’s time to start thinking about treating yourself to a new pair of winter boots. Uggs or Emu Australia boots will keep your feet cosy and warm in the cold winter weather. What if you decided that you wanted something over and above protection from the elements this year? Shoes which can help to give you a lower body workout when you walk in them – known as “toning shoes” – are a fairly new addition to the fitness footwear market. Currently, there’s a good range of different brands to choose from in the market. Skechers Shape Ups and Reebok Easy Tones are two well known and popular brands. They look like exercise shoes – although Skechers now have some other types being added to their range. Masai Barefoot Technology (MBT) shoes do offer some more conventional looking shoes – but they are fairly chunky. There will be some who find them a bit chunky, clumsy even – but it’s a matter of personal taste in the end.

One of the best options for winter toning shoes – somewhat surprisingly considering that they started life as a range of flip flop type sandals – is Fitflops from the UK. The range includes a variety of fur boots and metallic snugger boots – all of which incorporate the same specially engineered “microwobbleboard” sole as the sandals. The main difference in the sole, in comparison with the sandals, is that they have a rugged grip to help you walk with confidence when conditions underfoot are wet and icy.
