The Very Fashionable And Retro Rolex Milgauss Watch
When you think about quality luxury watches you probably think of the brand Rolex. The Rolex Company has been producing some of the world’s finest and most collectible watches since its foundation in 1905 in England. One of the highest collectible and most beautiful watches that the company has produced is the Rolex Milgauss. The Milgauss is the company’s model number 6451. The watch was designed to be an antimagnetic watch that would not be affected by electromagnetic fields that could be run into in power plans, medical facilities and research labs. The current model of the Rolex Milgauss has a magnetic allow hairspring that continues the goal of stopping electromagnetic interference with the watch’s precise movement. The watches movement is protected by a Faraday Cage that adds further protection to electromagnetic fields.
The Rolex Company chose the name Milgauss from the Latin mil, meaning one thousand, and gauss, the units of measurement for a magnetic field. This is significant because the company claims that the watch can withstand magnetic forces of up to 1,000 gauss.
The first model of the Rolex Milgauss was visually similar the Submariner because both watches feature an over sized case and bezel. a riveted Oyster bracelet, and a Twinlock crown. The Rolex Milgauss model was actually discontinued in 1988 and has since become one of the most collectible and rare models because of its low volume sales when it was available. The model was recently rereleased by Rolex in 2007 after almost 20 years after discontinuing the watch with 3 different models being available at the time of release. The over sized stainless steel bezel and Faraday cage make the watch one of the heavier models put out by the Rolex company. One of the most distinguishing features of the Rolex Milgauss is the lightning bolt used for the second hand. The hour indicators are also a dead give away on most models because of their bright orange color.
