Harris Tweed: The Fabric
A Harris tweed jacket is made out of durable and warm virgin wool. To make the jacket, the wool must first be collected and dyed. The wool is then spun into yarn. How many times it is spun tells a lot about the fabric. If it is a target to make the jacket lighter, then the wool is spun so many times.
When the yarn has been spun, it is taken to weavers who have looms set up in their own homes. They then weave the fabric by hand and return it to the mills to be inspected and washed. During the inspection, quality control specialists will look at the fabric and make sure that the yarn is not stretched too much or broken. This inspection is necessary because when spun many times the jacket may become too thin. Get a tweed jacket now
