The Diver’s Favorite Rolex Watch; The Rolex Sea Dweller

One thing that the Rolex company has become very good at is creating watches that have both beautiful design and amazing usefulness. The company has been in the watch business since 1905 and has made many amazing watch models that have become extremely popular and very collectible. The Rolex Sea Dweller is one of the company’s newest additions to an already stunning line of watches.

The Sea Dweller is fittingly named because it was designed to be a divers watch. The watch is waterproof to up to 1220 meters, the deepest of any of the Rolex models. The watch came as a result of the extreme need for ultra water resistant tool watches for professional marine divers that work at extreme depths. One of the most innovative features of this watch is that is incorporates a helium escape valve that can be used in saturation diving. The early models did not have this feature but it is now standard on the current Rolex Sea Dweller model.

The waterproof ratings vary between the various models of the Sea Dweller, with the base model, or Oyster Perpetual Sea Dweller Submariner 2000 having a waterproof depth of 610 meters. The model with the deepest waterproof rating is the Oyster Perpetual Sea Dweller 4000, which has an increased depth rating of 1220 meters or 4000 feet.

The Rolex Sea Dweller features a perpetual movement that is powered as the user goes about his or her daily life. The movement of the wrist causes a half moon to spin inside the watch and self wind the movement. The watch also features the patented Oyster case that is used on a variety of different Rolex models. This case is known for its durability and waterproof nature and was patented by the Rolex company in the late nineteen twenties. There are also several different special edition models of this watch that were designed as Comex watches for the Comex S. A. Company.
