I want to be a medical transcriptionist because I just became the bread winner of our family. I am a practicing general pediatrician in our province – Quezon Province from the Philippines. Our country is one of the third world country found in the Pacific. My husband was an architect but because of Diabetes, he has just lost both his legs and is now being maintained for dialysis three times a week. He is now a stay at home husband with very minimal source of income because he is confined to his wheelchair and he suffers from a lot of post-dialysis side-effects that he can no longer contribute to our family’s’ finances. We need at least $1,500 to $2000 for his dialysis and medicines which is not supported by our government because of corrupt politicians and because of the financial burden of maintaining his medical needs and providing for our kids education, I have to look for another means of income that will be in some way connected to my present career.

I could not go full time with my profession because there is nobody to take care of my husband and kids, so I just have my clinic hours in the mornings. I tried to go to a free school on medical transcriptionist here in our area but it has taken up too many hours off the house which I could not afford to do for now because of the aforementioned reasons.
